Mattel is incorporating biobased resins in its Mega Bloks toy line. Three building sets for preschool-age children will use blocks made from sugarcane-based polyethylene. The company has not said where it will get the resin. The Brazilian chemical firm Braskem has made polyethylene from sugarcane-derived ethanol for a decade and supplies Mattel’s competitor Lego.
