Givaudan will acquire the cosmetic ingredient business of the silk biopolymer maker AMSilk. Terms were not disclosed. AMSilk’s portfolio of biosourced polypeptides brings benefits like silky touch, protection against environmental pollutants, and hair-color protection, Givaudan says. The acquisition expands the Swiss firm’s portfolio of active cosmetic ingredients. AMSilk competitor Bolt Threads, which also creates silk fibers via fermentation, spun off the cosmetic silk protein maker Eighteen B earlier this year.
