Milliken has acquired Encapsys, a company focused on microencapsulation, the process of forming a shell around a particle. One of Encapsys’s first products, debuted in the 1950s when the company was part of Appleton Paper, was capsules that dispense ink for carbonless copy paper. Microencapsulation is also used in laundry detergents, mattresses, and medical devices. Milliken, a chemical and textile company, says it hopes to use Encapsys’s technology to make products that deliver active materials more efficiently.
