Orion Engineered Carbons, a carbon black specialist, has agreed to purchase Société du Noir d’Acétylène de l’Aubette from LyondellBasell Industries for an undisclosed sum. The company, also known as SN2A, operates a plant in Berre l’Etang, France, that makes acetylene black, a specialty form of carbon black known for its high electrical and thermal conductivity. It is found in lithium batteries and electrical cables. Divested in 2011 by Evonik Industries, Orion has been pushing increasingly into specialty carbon black.
