Albemarle opens battery R&D center

Albemarle has opened a lithium-ion battery materials R&D center at its site in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. The company, the only US producer of basic lithium chemicals, says the center will support its business in lithium hydroxide and carbonate and help it develop lithium-metal anodes as replacements for graphite anodes in lithium-ion batteries.
