The silicon maker Wacker Chemie is taking a 25% stake in Nexeon, a British company that is developing a silicon-based replacement for graphite as the anode of lithium-ion batteries. Wacker already has a research pact with Nexeon and bought a stake of undisclosed size in the firm in 2013. A Nexeon competitor, Sila Nanotechnologies, raised $70 million from investors last year.
