Wacker has started up a $150 million pyrogenic silica plant at its site in Charleston, Tennessee. The 13,000-metric-ton-per-year plant uses by-product tetrachlorosilane from Wacker’s 3-year-old polysilicon unit nearby. Pyrogenic silica is used to make silicone rubber.
