US FDA approves first over-the-counter birth control pill

The US Food and Drug Administration has approved Perrigo’s Opill (norgestrel), a once-daily progestin-only birth control pill, for over-the-counter use. It is the first daily contraceptive pill to be green-lit for nonprescription use in the US. The FDA approved norgestrel as a prescription contraceptive in 1973.
