Bayer has sold five families of patents relating to quantum dot manufacturing and the application of quantum dots in solar cells to San Marcos, Texas-based Quantum Materials. The patent portfolio is “without equal,” Quantum Materials says. Bayer has retained its quantum dot patents relating to medicine and agriculture. “Combining the solar patents with our automated volume quantum dot production process opens the door for us to establish joint ventures for quantum dot solar-cell pilot plants worldwide,” says David Doderer, Quantum Materials’ vice president of R&D.
