Orlen will start with glycerin, rather than the more common propylene oxide, to make propylene glycol.

Orlen has opened in Trzebinia, Poland, what it calls Europe’s largest biobased propylene glycol plant. The $100 million plant has a capacity of 30,000 metric tons per year, the firm says, equivalent to 75% of the Polish propylene glycol market. Orlen’s raw material is glycerin generated during biodiesel production. Propylene glycol is used in consumer products and to deice aircraft.
