Solvay will sells its amphoteric surfactant business to the private equity firm OpenGate Capital for an undisclosed sum. Amphoteric surfactants are used in shampoo, among other applications. The unit employs 175 people at sites in the US, UK, Germany, and Turkey. Solvay sold barium, strontium, sodium percarbonate, and polyamide businesses in 2020. The firm says it is exiting niche technical-grade chemicals and focusing on high-margin specialty chemicals and materials.
