British American Tobacco (BAT) has launched a company, KBio, that will use tobacco plants to develop and produce medical treatments. In 2014, BAT acquired Kentucky BioProcessing, which uses tobacco to produce drugs and has worked on Ebola treatments and a COVID-19 vaccine. Last year, cigarette maker Philip Morris acquired several companies focused on delivering inhalable drugs.
