Tien Nguyen, Assistant Editor
Areas of coverage: Organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, drug discovery, materials science and energy
Tien is a recovering medicinal and organic chemist, having worked in drug discovery before earning her PhD at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2014. During graduate school she blogged, did outreach and entered video competitions, and ultimately uncovered a love of explaining the science behind the everyday. She’s been trying to get better at it ever since. She has written stories and scripts for New Scientist, Princeton University, Scientific American, TED-Ed, and VICE News. In 2017, she left freelance life in Brooklyn behind to join C&EN as a slightly less cliché journalist in DC.
